Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada

“We call upon the federal, provincial, and territorial governments, in consultation and collaboration with Survivors, Aboriginal peoples, and educators to make age-appropriate curriculum on residential schools, Treaties, and Aboriginal peoples historical and contemporary contributions to Canada a mandatory education requirement for K – 12 students. We call upon the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada to maintain an annual commitment to Aboriginal education issues, including Developing and implementing K- 12 curriculum and learning resources on Aboriginal peoples in Canadian history, and the history and legacy of residential schools.”
How does the TRC affect educators?
Education is important in building a strong foundation in one’s life and a strong building block in building a stronger and healthier community. Education providers are responsible for developing and implement learning resources on Aboriginal peoples in Canadian History, and the history and legacy of Residential schools with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities.
The TRC mandates a call-to-action for Educators Canada.
Our training directly answers 8 of the TRC Calls-to-Action. The 8 recommendations call for training that includes education on Aboriginal history, the legacy of residential schools, treaties and Indigenous rights, Indigenous law, Aboriginal-Crown relations, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism.
Our training meets or exceeds the requirements for government programs, government funding, or continuing education credits at many education institutions. We meet the training needs for corporate employers from all sectors.
